Success Stories
CHEDDAR - "We just adopted Cheddar on Saturday 5/4. He is so adorable and gets along super with our other rescue kittie Maxi. Maxi was in the 2013 calendar. They are both such a blessing. Thank you to HSLC!"
Ada Neidig
BOB - "Hi everyone. I just wanted to update you on how Bob is doing. We all got home and he has just been a joy. My other Pug, Mang, really started to take to him after we got home and everything settled down. Bob is so much fun. He loves sleeping next to me in bed. Mang is on one side and Bob snuggles in on the other. He loves barking at my parents’ labs, Sadie and Zia, when they go by for a run. He barked at me when I went to the store this morning but Mang has taught him the dog door and he knows the whole routine now. He sits right next to me when I type and he loves to play with stuffed animals…the bigger the better. I am so grateful to have him here. I am going to contact my vet next week and get him in for a checkup and schedule his neuter surgery. I just want to give him time to settle in before he undergoes that procedure. So, we are a very happy family of 3 thanks to you. Have a wonderful week."

"We came to the Lebanon Humane Society in February in search of a Pittie. We saw a frightened dog crouched and so worried, and were told by the staff that he had been surrendered the day before. We spent some time with Dext...er (formerly Brutus), and decided he was the guy for us! He jumped in the car and never looked back. The first stop was Petsmart for toys, and then we headed home. We just love our boy, and he loves to spend time taking long walks and playing. He has been such a gentleman and a blessing. We can't imagine life without this snuggly addition to our family!"
Christin
"Paisley (Brandy) loves her new home, she fits right in! :)"
Allison
COOKIE - (now Gracie or Bella) is doing great! She's an amazing addition to the family and seems like she's been part of the family forever! Still looking forward to adding another kitty when things are settled again....Thanks so much!
Amanda
PRINCESS - "We adopted Princess, a black and white cat from there, she wasn't to sure about us or the dogs when we got her home, but she made herself quite comfortable in the "bathtub" so we decided to call her PRINCESS TUBBY, quite fitting for her. Now it has been 2 weeks since we have her and she has grown quite fond of the dogs and us... She loves to talk and especially loves to eat, but Tubby must go on a diet and loose some weight, but she is doing great she loves to be combed and just to be loved, she is definetly a keeper in our house,,, thanks again!"
Sue Snyder
CLEOPATRA - "This is Cleopatra, I adopted her from you this past year. She has been such a joy to have around, she loves to cuddle and play and sleeps at my feet every night. Kisses are a big part of her daily routine and she just LOVES her Temptations. I just wanted to thank you for giving me the pleasure of bringing her into my home.... everyone that comes to visit loves her, she has an extremely outgoing personality! Thank you again."
Lisa Kirby
CRICKET - "My wife and I came in to look at dogs in December 2010, found Cricket and instantly decided she was ours. Although Cricket smelled terrible, we took her home. She gets along with our Cats, other Dogs and is friendly with everyone she meets despite the scars from her past life. We are very happy to have her with us and I enjoy spoiling her with attention and Lasagna. She is always making us laugh. Cricket always chews her beds and couch up. She eats poop as often as she can and ambushes us with poop breath and poop flavored burps routinely, but we still love her!"
Christian and Emily Tarbell
JASE - "I just wanted to share some pics of "Jase", who we adopted in October 2012. Jase is a great dog, and as you can see, he feels right at home."
Kelli Matter-Dreibelbis
JASMINE - "Dear Humane Society Workers, We wanted to thank you for the wonderful new addition to our family! A couple of months ago, we adopted "Jasmine", a 2-3yr old mix. She had been at your facility for almost 3 months & her adoption had already been paid for. We found that she was already house-broken & trained to command! Jasmine has been a real gift to our family! She is very loving & affectionate. She loves her new canine sister & 2 cats & running in her big backyard. We could not have found a more perfect dog! She is so loved! Much thanks to you & her donor!!!"
Joy Watterson
MAX - "This is our shelter kitty Maxi that we brought home in early April. We absolutely love and adore this little fellow. What a wonderful Blessing he has been. Thank HSoLC for making the adoption possible."
Ada Neidig
DELILAH - "We were looking for a dog for our daughter because our son is going into the service. One of your volunteers recommended Delilah, and we fell in love with her the moment we saw her. She has made such a great impact on our family. She has responded positively with training. Delilah has come to love her run in the morning with our son, and enjoys her walks in the evening. She has learned to sit, lay down and stand on her two hind legs upon command (of course expecting a treat). She has made us laugh so much with her funny personality and we cannot imagine life without her. Thank you for giving us our new addition to the family! We love her!"
Shawne Gatoura
BARNEY - "We adopted Barney (formerly Max), a young brindled pit mix, almost 6 months ago. This is a family picture at the park. Barney has made us so happy with his enthusiasm for life and endless energy. He just finished his basic obedience class, and he learns quickly. He loves walks, wild games of fetch in our yard, camping, hiking, swimming, and chewing toys (especially when they're stuffed with peanut butter and treats!) He so smart and energetic (typical pittie!), so he keeps us on our toes for sure, but he's such a good boy and eager to please. His motto is "play hard, love hard." Thank you for helping us find the perfect dog for us, he's our baby!"
Holly Moyer
BENJI - "I saw the link about success stories and I wanted to tell you about our dog Benji. We adopted him from the humane society in July of 2008. He was an abused dog who was very shy when we went to look at him. But we decided to take him out on a leash anyway--just in case. I am so glad we did. Once on a leash he perked up and became very friendly. We decided he was the dog for us and brought him home. We have had Benji for a little over 4 years now and he is truly part of the family. We have two children that he adores and snuggles with (even though he is a larger dog). He is also very protective of the children. If anyone new comes in our house he will make sure he is between that person and the kids and watches them until he knows it's safe. The only negative thing I think there is to say about Benji is that he hogs too much of the bed at night! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt our forever friend and family member."
Jen Thornsberry
SHELBIE - "We adopted Shelbie on 7/21/2010, she has become an integral part of our family. She is very affectionate, and loves treats. She is just a wonderful addition to the family. We recommend that others take the opportunity to adopt a pet, it is well worth your while. If you can tell from the picture she loves to eat. She has the best temperment of any cat I have ever had. We would not hesitate to adopt again in the future. The staff was also very helpful and polite with the adoption process."
Josh, Lisa, Dominick
TYSON (originally Simba) "This is Simba, though we changed his name to Tyson! He learned it quick! We adopted him not too long ago, in July. He has been so great! Very hyper, it takes a lot to wear him out! If he's not running around playing with our other dogs, he cuddles up next to me and falls asleep! He is a huge bed hog! Most of the time I have to drag him or push him just so he gets out of bed to go outside! We travel around a lot, and he is awesome in the car! He loves to put his face out the window! He also loves to sit on my lap, and give kisses. Sometimes he's a bad listener but he is getting better! When we got him, we were so surprised he knew how to lay down, sit and he knew a little bit of shake because it took only a few times for him to get it. If we ever leave him home for a little but, which we usually bring him everywhere, he's so excited to see us when we come home. He's just an all around happy boy, whether he's out playing, chewing on a bone or toy, or just laying around. He's awesome! The best thing we ever did was adopt him, and we can't wait to adopt another. Thank you so much!"
Taylor Stevey & Tyler Conner
MAX - "We adopted this adorable young terrier mix dog about six weeks ago. What a character he is. Our house is full of laughter and love since we brought him home. It's hard to understand how he wound up on the street and we feel so lucky that we are able to have him as a member of our family. Even our kitty, enjoys his antics."
Sid & Evelyn
SWEETY - "Sweety has fit right into our home. We changed her name to Sweety because shes just an all around sweetheart! She is the most laid back pet we have and she loves to talk to us. I look forward to her chatter every morning I wake up. She actually holds a conversation with you. She has become quite the little lovey throw pillow and loves to sit and watch tv with us. Shes a wonderful addition to our close family!"
DOZER - "Dozer (formally Brown) is an amazing dog! He fits right in with my family. He gets along well with my 7 yr old daughter and 3 cats. They're all great buddies! I decided to change Brown's name to Dozer because this little guy is a brute! Very strong and he has no doubt of his capabilities to destroy things but he listens extremely well. He only destroys things that I allow him to destroy. He became my best friend quite quickly and hes just an absolute lover! He listens so well that i run him in the country without a leash! Hes a wonderful happy bruiser boy and we love him tremendously. I knew from the first minute I saw Dozer in the shelter that he was meant for us. He came to me at a time when we lost our other dog due to age. Im still not sure who needed who more but either way, Dozer is happy in his forever home and we are too!"
Jon
TONKA - "I rescued Tonka from the Lebanon Humane Society in December for a Christmas present for my dad. He is a truck driver and wanted a ride-along buddy, Tonka is the perfect match! He loves truck rides and awaits my dad at the front door in the mornings! He is very comfortable in his new forever home. Thank you!"
Amanda
PEARL - "Thank you for Pearl. We adopted her last week, and she has just been terrific. We love her and she appears to have fallen in love with us. We also want to thank the individual who paid her adoption fee and for the care package of goodies that were sent home with her. She is perfect for us. Thank you."
Sandy Adams
JOSIE (formally Jersey) "Hello! Just wanted to send a quick email to fill you in on formily Jersey that we adopted in early April. We changed her name to Josie and got her some training, she picked up on everything right away. She can be a stubborn girl but so willing to please. First off all she is doing pretty well, she loves her new home and is an angel when we are home. She has struggled with seperation anexiety and there for has been distructive but we are working with her to get her through it. She loves her brother moose a yellow lab, they love to snuggle, play tug of war and go swimming. Josie is a lover and has to be touching one of us all the time, she thinks she is little cat and can curl up on your lap and sleep! She is such a fun girl, and is having a blast with her brother!! Thank you!"
Megan & Ryan Ulrich
HOPE - "Almost two years ago now my husband and I adopted a little black Lab who had been hit by a car and left by the side of the road. Her front leg was broken, but her very large heart was gloriously intact. She became our pet and best friend, almost our fifth child, born to us in the last part of our lives. Unusually sensitive to the feelings of others and unfailingly devoted to me, she settled in, the last ingredient to a perfect life. Yesterday we gave Hope our last gift, freedom from the suffering brought on by an abdominal tumor and metastatic cancer of her heart. Her heart! That purest part of her body. It was very difficult to give her up. We hope that soon, we will turn from pain at her loss to gratitude for the opportunity we had to live with her as part of our family. We are so glad the Lebanon Humane Society was wise enough to save this dog in spite of her age and expensive injuries. She was a priceless gift to us."
Mary Catherine Leeper
CUDA (formerly Bluto - "We adopted Cuda (aka Sugar Pea) in February 2012. We came to the shelter with the hopes of rescuing a small dog to make our family complete. We looked at the small dogs and none seemed to be just right for us. Thinking of checking back later as more dogs became available, we went to visit the rest of the cats/dogs before leaving. Those big dogs were jumping and barking and begging for love and our hearts were breaking for all of them. All the way in the back was a very big Rottweiler who simply sat still and laid his head against the kennel door with the saddest look I have ever seen. He looked a little scary to me with his size and the fact that we have small children, but we just had to take him for a walk. When I stopped, he stopped and sat next to me. In the visiting area , he wanted nothing but love. Only one problem, how will he act with the kids? We came back the very next day with the kids. He wanted them so bad, he knocked my daughter right off her feet when he ran to greet her. He has no idea how strong he is and I was worried. Realizing he only wanted her to play, my daughter begged to bring him home. The family was in love with him already. Now he follows her down the sliding board and goes for every car ride he can get us to take him for. He's more spoiled than the kids are and can't stand to be away from us. I can't even go to the bathroom alone, lol. We took a chance and the only regret we have is not finding him sooner. I used to laugh when people said, "we didn't choose our dog, he chose us". Now I know that it's real because he did choose us, and we love him for it."
Cindy Ryan
DAISY DUKE - "My husband and I got married in October and we both decided to adopt a cat. We went to the humane society and found there was a stray cat there. She was just put in 2 days before we got there. No name, she was 7 months old. She was very shy and we were kind of hesitant to adopt, due to we were looking for a very friendly cat. Well, we adopted her in February of 2012. She is absolutely adorable. We named her "Daisy Duke". When we brought her home she came right out of her shell. She loves playing with her toys, running after us through the house, loves her cat tree, and she is super loving and friendly to everyone that comes over. Everyone adores her. Thank you to the humane society for making the adoption process fast and easy. Everyone there is very friendly! Thank you!!"
Amanda Good
CHET ROCKET (formerly Hudson) - "We just wanted to share how happy we are with our Adoption. Chet was adopted in July 2011 and he has adjusted to the family so well since then! He is spoiled rotten now with lots of treats, toys, walks, and snuggling. Our little lover was just what we needed after the death of our 17 year old dog. Thank you!"
Phil, Carol and Amy Lizee
"I adopted Stubby from you last year for my mom. She lives in an apartment in my basement so Stubby is pretty much a pet to both of us. I know he spent a year with you so I am sure you remember him and that is why I am sending you a couple of pictures to show you that he is just fine and loved."
Kathy Ring
SMOKEY - "Hi Guys - Just wanted to say Thank You for Smokey(we adopted him in decemberj). Here is a pic of him with our other dog, Kota. (We just got back from our walk) We love him sooooo much!"

Jonathan and Rhiley Trumble
ROO - "Hi, we wanted to give you an update on Roo. She is doing amazingly well. When we first adopted Roo, she was shy, scared, and timid. NOW.......WOW oh WOW she is a wonderfully loving, playful, silly girl who loves to dive into our bed and sleep between us at night...(she snores Loudly) lol.........she pretends to be sleeping sometimes wich is extrmely funny...she gallops in our house from our room to the living room when she is excited, she loves car rides and loves when we dont have to work! Great girl, never ever had a problem since the day we got her. She came with a great big crate...but ......we never had to place her in there (she likes to go in there and chew her rawhides)even while we re at work she has the run of the house.Never barks either (one or twice while we were playing with her) She is our little girl and would never ever give her up. Thank you so much for this precious gift to our home. Hope you enjoy the pictures....we would love to add another great dog to our home soon.....thanks again!"
Renee, Brad & Roo
TEDDY - "On January 24 my boyfriend and I adopted Teddy. He is exactly what we needed in our home! I knew from the moment we moved in to our current home that something was missing, it didn't feel like home for some reason. The day we brought Teddy home I knew that he was the missing piece. He is the sweetest little dog and as you can see from the photo spends his days relaxing. Every day I look at him and wonder how we ever lived without him. He has brought so much joy to our lives, and I know that we are the ones who truly needed him more than he needed us. Thank you so much for taking Teddy in and keeping him until we got there! He is a blessing in our lives and a wonderful fit for us!"
Mackenzie Leonard
HOPE (formally Gemma) - "About a month ago my husband and I adopted Hope. We had visited the shelter to meet her specifically after seeing her picture online. From day one she seemed to make herself at home and fit right into our family. She brings so much playfulness and excitement into our lives...already it is difficult to imagine what life was like without her. She has such a great personality, it is impossible not to fall in love with her. We look forward to making tons of memories with her in the future. Everyone tells her what a lucky girl she is but really I think we are the lucky ones to have met her and brought her home. Thank you so much for taking such good care of Hope during her stay! We just wanted you to know she is enjoying her life here at home and is very much loved!"

"Dylan (formally Rocky), a Lab/Husky mix, joined our family 3 years ago. He had been brought to the shelter the same day I first visited to start looking for our next dog, after our chocolate lab died. He was wild in his pen, barking, jumping up at the door to the pen (which made him at least shoulder height on me!). He really pulled on the leash when I took him out, but when I got him to the field and he started to settle a bit, I could tell he would respond well to training. He wanted to listen. He was just so full of energy. I was skeptical that my husband would see past the wild boy. We weren't quite ready to adopt yet, so, reluctantly, I left without him. A couple of weeks later I visited again, this time with my daughter. It was love at first sight. Again, reluctantly, we left him. She and I visited one more time, before my husband finally agreed he was ready to come look at him. It was now 2 months after he arrived at the shelter and he and I had our first meeting. Still skeptical that my husband would see anything except an overly energetic Lab, I was pleasantly surprised when, after dragging us out to the field, Dylan showed my husband the potential that was behind all of that energy. Dylan finally came home with us after that visit. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. Now that he is exercised regularly, and has the run of the yard (with a radio collar), he is really a very calm boy. He is the perfect mix of the two breed's characteristics for us. He has the Lab goof that I love, but it is tempered with a bit of the Husky cool. He lives to run, so he keeps us moving, and (this I love), he LOVES veggies. He hears me cutting veggies on the cutting board and comes running for handouts! I can't imagine life without him!"
Hartman Family
"This is Mandy (I can't remember what her name was at the shelter) I got her in 1997 when i was just 7 years old and the vet told me she was about two at the time, I still have her today and shes about 17 now. She is my little baby, I now have 2 new kittens she's not the biggest fan of them when they get in her face but otherwise they all get along. Shes always curled up in a ball somewhere high up or in the sun. She's the only cat that gets to sleep in my bedroom at night. She still acts like a kitten herself at times running and jumping everywhere, but she is starting to slow down a little now, but no gray hairs. I'm so glad my dad brought me into the shelter the day he did because the second I saw her I fell in love with her and couldn't wait to bring her home, shes perfect for me and she definitely found her forever home with me, even though we have moved several times throughout the years as I grew up but now her and I are out on our own and staying put for a long while, even though she has never minded the moving around. I don't think I could ever thank the Lebanon Humane Society enough for the joy and love my Mandy has been and continues to bring me everyday! Thank you!"
Shauna Edwards
HAZEL - "In August my boyfriend and I came in specifically to meet Hazel, who we saw on the humane society's website. We ended up applying to adopt her a day after we met her, and took her home several days later. We are absolutely in love with her, and she is ridiculously spoiled! Even when she does something mischievous, we can't understand why anyone would ever give her up. She is a wonderful addition to our family, and she's pretty certain she's just a small lap dog! We're so grateful we were fortunate enough to bring her home, and give her the life she deserves! Don't shop, adopt!"
Meghan Yatron
"February 8th was Mya's "re-birthday"!!!! She has truly been a blessing to us. She brings joy to our life everyday!!! When I first brought her home, my son said to me, "Mom, I like her but I don't know if I love her". Well he tells her all the time now that he loves her! Thank you SO much for bringing us together!"
Karen Ramos
"Here is Ruby in her forever home with one of her little boys."
Shalin Shultz
"We adopted Newton (named after Sir Isaac, previously known as Midnight) about 2 weeks ago…Since then he and our resident female kitty, Bella have become best of friends. She absolutely adores him and follows him everywhere he goes. He, on the other hand pretends not to notice but as you can see from the picture, loves her just as much. Where one is, the other is! Now that Bella and Newt have each other to keep one another company, their “People Pets” have been reduced to begging for a cuddle here and there…LOL! Although he does seem to be taking his new name seriously as he often sits right up on my 12 y.o. daughter’s desk while she does her homework, and won’t leave until she is done. He is a wonderful addition to our family and we look forward to having him for many years to come."
Melissa Kulbitsky
JAZZ - "The best buddy ever! We adopted Jazz 4 months ago and our family could not have chosen a better dog. He was housetrained, great with kids and loved to play ball. He just needed to be loved. Please do not let the pit bull mixes scare you. They are the most loving dogs. I encourage everyone to go to the Humane Society when deciding to get a dog or cat. You will find a great companion who wants to be loved."
Cindy Smith
"There once was a couple named Hahn, whose pets had all moved on. The couple missed having a pet, and so to shelter they went, where Izzy had been for so long. Izzy is now a content senior dog who adores her home life with Sue and Bob. She gets lots of treats, never misses a beat, but tries not to be a hog! Bob and Sue fell in love right away, and brought the black dog home to stay. She brings hours of fun, and for over 10 years this she has done, and their lives she has made happy and gay!"
Bob and Sue Hahn
RIGBY - "I thought you might like an update on Rocky. He is now 'Rigby' from the cartoon network's 'Regular Show'. Rigyby made himself right at home and is doing quite well as you can see from his pictures. He had his check-up on Monday and was given a clean bill of health. They think he is about 1 or 2 years old. We had him groomed yesterday and he smells just like a Gingerbread Man!! LOL! They even took Chrismas pics of him!!! What a ham!!! Anyway....we thought you might like an update. He is a special little guy and my boys are VERY happy. They have been without a father in their life for seven months now and with having our Greyhound put down it has been very difficult. Rigby puts a smile on our faces and has been a welcome addition to our family. Thank you all very much for taking the time to help us with our decision."
Lisa, Jerry, Logan & Connor
BUGSY (now named WOODY) - "Two weeks ago I adopted a male polydactil kitty that you called Bugsy. I renamed him Woody Guthrie and I wanted to share some pictures of him with you. He had absolutely no problem adapting to his new home and new friends. He has a ton of play energy in the morning and usually crashes in the afternoon. Nightime, it's anyone's game. He is wonderful and I love him very much. Thank you for allowing me to adopt this wonderful creature. He will be treasured (and spoiled rotten) forever."
Jill Liberman
RUFIO (now JUNIOR) - "My name is Celia Torres and my family and I got Junior (formerly known as Rufio) from you in August. I just wanted to let you know that Junior fits in very well with the family and he is loved by all. We have fattened him up A LOT and he has plenty of toys to play with. He can be a little hyper at times and loves to jump on the furniture, but quickly gets over it. He loves going on walks and behaves so well on them. Junior has become quite the ladies man and likes to meet new people as well. He can be protective of the family and watches us through the windows when we are outside. He is a wonderful new addition to our family and we love him very much. Thank you for your time."
Celia Torres
SANDY - "One year ago today we rescued our dog Sandy from the Lebanon Humane Society. She has brought happiness and joy to our home, and i hope she is as happy here as we are having her here. Anyone thinking about a pet, please consider saving one from a shelter. Shelter animals just want someone to love."
Michael Kohr
SYMIN - "I adopted my Siamese cat Jasper (renamed Symin) about a week ago. He was shy at first but warmed up very quickly! He loves attention, and hates to be left alone. He does really well with kids! He's a super friendly beautiful kitty! He enjoys climbing on my bed under the blankets and taking naps! He sleeps in my bed with me everynight! (He snores, but I still love him (: ) I'm so happy to have adopted such an amazing kitty! Thank you Humane Society!!"
Emily Smith
PIXIE - "About 3 years ago we adopted a blue nose pitbull. Her name is Pixie. She has been a gift from heaven. I have a 4 year old daughter who is disabled and a 7 year old son that has adhd. Pixie has been the greatest medicine ever. Its like she knows they are special. A pitbull was truely the best match for our "pack". I just wanted to thank you for our loving Pixie girl."
Jennifer Getz
MUGSY - "This is our beautiful boy Mugsy. We adopted him back in December 2005 from the Humane Society. He is the best dog we have ever had and we love him so much. We have a daughter who is 4 now and he is so good with her, she lays on him and plays around with him and never once has he snapped or snarled at her. He is a happy go lucky guy and so well behaved. We were told that his previous owner gave him up because he chewed on everything, we have never had a problem with him doing that at all. He is a lazy boy and doesn't like to get out of bed in the morning, but when he gets a burst of energy or excited about something, look out because he runs around like crazy and does laps around the house. We didn't plan on adopting a dog, just happened to be driving by one day and decided to stop in. Once we saw him in that kennel and his whole body started wiggling when we walked up to him, we couldn't resist. It was the best thing we have ever done and we truly believe that adopted dogs are such good dogs because they really appreciate having a loving home. We love our boy and couldn't imagine life without him. Thank you for all you do for the animals you take in, if it wasn't for you we may have never gotten a chance to have our best friend in our lives."
Sarah and Ryan Embich
ACE - "We adopted Ace in June 2011. I had recently lost my beautiful lab of 14 years and was heartbroken. From the minute we got Ace he was a gem! I was apprehensive about adopting since I never had and I also have a 3 year old daughter. My daughter adores him and asks him to come to bed with her every night. It is like he has lived here his whole life. He is helping me heal. I needed him as much as he needed me! We love him and are so thrilled to have him in his forever home! Thank you for all you do for the animals there. You are angels!"
Susan Paulsen
RIVER - "Thank you SO much for my darling boy, River. We're already having such a blast exploring and spending time together!"
Becca McClellan
JELLY - "I adopted Jelly in April of 2011. The day I took him home was his 2nd birthday. I was looking for a cat to adopt for quite some time and although I really liked many that were quite older, I was looking for a cat that was between 2 & 7 years old, spayed/neutered & was declawed. I took my teenage nephew, Joey with me a few times to help me find my new kitty cat. He told me not to worry because I would know which one to pick because it would be the one who "spoke" to me. Well, Jelly surly did that!! As soon as I walked into the cat room, he started to purr very loudly. I just had to hold him & when I did, he tucked his head inside my coat as if to say, "take me, take me!! I wanted to check out some of the other cats in the room, but Jelly kept bumping is head on the side of his cage & purring very loudly. I just had to pick him because, like Joey said...he definitely spoke to me! The first day when I brought him home, I got him to come out of the carrier by brushing him. It took a few days but I must say, he is the sweetest cat I've ever had. He is so loveable & he loves to be brushed. He practicably throws himself down on the floor & assumes the position whenever he sees that I have the brush in my hand. I did not change his name but I have a few "pet" names for him such as "Snaglepuss", "Meow-Meow" " & "Jelly Bean". He is definitely my kitty cat but I am also his person. He follows me everywhere and loves to play with his toys. I want to say a big THANK YOU to the people who surrendered Jelly as well as the Lebanon Humane Society for letting me find my perfect pet."

MAGGIE - "First off - thank you so much for what you do, and giving every animal that comes to you a fighting chance. This was very important to me when looking for my new friend. I had been looking for a cat for awhile at this point, and saw on your website 3 cats that met the criteria, (my apartment criteria was declawed, spayed/neutered, and over a year of age) so I figured the hours drive to get there was worth it, hoping one of them would be the one. While I looked at the other 2 cats before Maggie, I noticed she was very interested in this strange person in the cat room. When I finally got over to her she ran right to the front of her cage, greeted me and continued to beg for little head scratches. Trying to decide on which cat I re-met all 3 again and when ever I was not with Maggie she persistently kept putting her paws through the cage like she was reaching for me to come back. This was what I needed, a CAT TO PICK ME!! It didn't take me long to realize this was the one. I have now had Maggie for almost 2 years (2 years nov. 2011), and she started off quite the 'scaredy cat' with me. She spent most of the days hiding and slowly with time, and love over the next 6 months she began to be more relaxed in her new home. Now she is a completely different cat from when I first brought her home, she is affectionate, more outgoing, and will "yell" for her mom when I'm not in the room with her. I love every second with this cat, and again thank you for everything you do, and allowing me the ability to give Maggie a new home!"

MOLLY - "We got Molly July 2010 when she was almost a year old. When we first brought her home she was terrified of everything including our laminate floors. We placed rugs across them so she could get to the carpet and eventually removed the rugs one by one. Now she loves sliding across the floors while chasing a ball! Molly loves to be outside and enjoys being out every chance she gets."

LUCKY - "In December of 2010, we adopted a dog who was aptly named “Lucky.” Since he was eight, we decided to keep the name and not confuse him. The first twenty-four hours was definitely challenging, as it was obvious he needed some major training (staying off the furniture, pilfering food off the counter, knocking over the trashcan, etc.). He escaped right out the front door, and has proven further Houdini-like skills, including opening latched doors. Yet, through all this, he is the sweetest thing ever, and I still love him to pieces. Our main goal for adopting was to find a dog who would be loving and affectionate with our children, and he certainly is. They kiss and hug him, and he absolutely loves it. He is a champion ball and Frisbee catcher, and we continue to work on his basic training. We were told he was given to the shelter by a family who was moving and couldn’t take him with them. I think he’s really settled into our family and enjoys his home with us. We feel lucky to have found Lucky!"

TEDDY - "We have been volunteering at the Lebanon County Humane Society since late last year. We are dog exercisers. We walked a lot of dogs , but after losing our loving pit bull to cancer the year before, we had a soft spot for the pitties. One cold snowy Sat afternoon, a new adult pit was at the shelter. We took him out for a walk and fell in love with him. He had such soft eyes and gentle manner. Needless to say, we ended up adopting him. We named him Teddy because he looks like and snuggles like a big teddy bear. Teddy is happy, healthy and loving being a part of a family, He didn't know what to do with toys when we first brought him home, but now he just loves playing with his toys, romping in his yard, going for lots of long walks and he is even in obedience training where he has made some great new doggie friends to play with. We are so glad to have him in our "pack" and when he looks at us we can see in his eyes just how grateful he is to have a family and a forever home. God knew this dog needed us and we are so happy to be able to take care of yet another one of his beautiful creatures. We plan on continuing to walk dogs at the shelter. The dogs are so happy to get out for a walk and just love the individual attention and love you can give to them while you are walking and playing with them. There are so many wonderful animals at the shelter that are just waiting for someone to give them the love that they are looking for. Thank you to all the shelter employees for all you do!"

PEANUT - "Peanut is 7 years old and was having trouble adjusting to shelter life after being dropped off by his first family when they moved. Peanut is the most lovable and affectionate cat I have ever had. Within 2 days he was roaming around the house and making himself at home. While he loves his variety of toys to play with, he is most at home snuggled on my lap. he loves sitting on the windowsill looking outside. He is anxiously waiting for the birds to show up and seeing the occaasional rabbit run by to keep him entertained. I just love Peanut and am so happy I was able to adpopt him; I'm pretty sure by his constant loud purring he feels the same!"

Thanks to the Humane Society for two super sweet Poodles (originally Ginger & Ava; now named Rosie and Josie). You totally made my parents day! They are in love with their new additions :)

PRINCESS - "Back on December 1st of 2001, my parents and I adopted a Beagle puppy that was part of an abuse case. Her and her siblings were abused by their old owner. Luckily, you guys won the case and we were able to keep the little pup that I named Princess right in the lobby of the Humane Society. Princess was a wonderful addition to our family and we absolutely loved her to death. She loved being petted on her head and being scratched underneath her chin. At our old house, Princess had made friends with a stray cat that we called Ashes. Princess used to pick Ashes up and carry the little cat around like Princess was the mother. It was so sweet and adorable. She always knew when it was Sunday because my dad would make her a scrambled egg. As she grew older, Princess had made friends with a skunk and often chased chipmunks up our rain gutters and squirrels up the big oak tree in our yard. Just four years ago, when she was about five years old, my brother was born. I remember that Princess was not very fond of my brother. Actually, she wasn't very fond of any young creature. She walked away from puppies and she tried to avoid my brother. Princess was getting old and both my parents and I saw the affects that old age was having on her. For the last couple months, Princess was having trouble with her bladder. My father took her to the docter every now and then throughout that time period. Everything had come out fine and the veterinarian told my father that Princess may be having trouble with her food and the salts and preservatives that were in the food. My father tried different brands of dog food and they seemed to work for a little while. The vet even told my dad to cook some ground meat and rice up for her and feed that to her. She loved that, but buying the ground meat every week for her was a little too pricy for my family. My dad continued to the search for a low preservative and salt dog food. February 19th, 20th, and 21st of 2011 found Princess in the veterinary clinic again. On the 21st around 11:30 in the morning, Princess was running in the fresh grass on the clouds. She had died of liver failure. The saddest part about losing her was that she had been my birthday present in 2001. We had initially planned on getting a Terrier with a broken leg and a cone around his neck, but my father and I saw Princess sitting quietly with her head tilted and we instantly fell in love with her. It was heartbreaking to lose such a sweet and wonderful dog. My family will definitely miss her and she will always be in our hearts."

Here is a picture of our mostly-Border Collie (part Setter), Daisy. We adopted her from you folks in July 2008. This picture of one of my 3 professional actor shots, and casting directors and agents comment on her all the time. She's a trip, a hoot, a good girl, and smart as a whip.

PIP & SAMMY - "Hello to everyone at the shelter that made adopting Pip and Sammy, formerly known as Midas and Raisin, possible. I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday. Sam and Pip are both doing well and they have become the best of friends. Adopting them has definitely completed our family and we love them so much. They both had the time of their lives climbing and sleeping in the Christmas tree and both loved getting their presents of catnip and new toys. Thanks again! I can tell by how well they adjusted that you all took good care of them and showed them love."

WILSON - "My kids and I came in to just look at the pets with no plans on adopting any. We saw Wilson and fell in love immediately, we asked to take him for a walk, as we went to take him out another family was in front of his pen wanting to take him home but thank god we asked first. We took him for a walk and came back in to file the adoption papers and a few days later he was home apart of our family. The kids had renamed him to Duke and he learned it within a few days. So all the way around adopting him was meant to happen. Not only did we get him fixed but also got him chipped to take no chances of losing him. It is now 9 months later and we are all doing well, he has learned to sit, lay down, shake and to heal. As you can see from the pictures he is very much comfortable to be home. Thank you so much for approving our adoption."

LAKOTA - "My husband and I adopted lakota, a purebred blue female American pitbull in February 2006. She is the most wonderful loving and caring dog I have ever met. Training her was ajoy, she walks well on a leash and responds to many commands. We love her with all our heart and soul and she is truly one of our family members. I give thanks to the humane society for rescueing her from a bad situation."

NALA - "For quite some time now, my oldest daughter (10) had been asking me for a dog. She didn't care what kind of dog she got, how old the dog would be, she just wanted a dog! In my mind, I could not even begin to consider a dog coming into the family, for multiple reasons. First of all, I have 5 young children, ranging in age from 1yr to 10yrs, a cat, a rabbit, and a fish, and they keep me busy enough! Secondly, our house is very small. Where in the world would we have room, and time, for a dog??? Still, I couldn't get away from the idea of POSSIBLY getting her a dog, no matter how much I tried to convince her, (and myself) that we just couldn't have one. At some point, without my daughters knowledge, I began looking on your website at the dogs available for adoption. I'd see some potential "candidates", but would always just tell myself "we can not have a dog"! One Sunday afternoon, I just couldn't get away from that nagging feeling that maybe we CAN have a dog, so I decided to pack up the 5 kids, and head down to the shelter to see who might be a good fit for our family. We had many discussions about exactly what qualities we wanted a dog to have, and I secretly had a few "tests" that the dog needed to pass before I'd even consider adopting them. The biggest thing, was that I had to feel in my spirit, that we had found OUR dog, not just ANY dog. I knew I'd know when we had found the right one. That Sunday afternoon began our search. We visited with a few dogs, but I just didn't feel settled about any of them. They were all beautiful, and all had their own wonderful attributes, but they just weren't "our" dog. Every few days after that initial visit to the shelter, I would go onto your webpage and look for any new available dogs for adoption. One week we had seen a few new dogs that may be good candidates for us, so we revisited the shelter on a Tuesday afternoon when the kids were home from school. It was on that Tuesday afternoon, that we met Ruthie, a young female Harrier mix. We took Ruthie out for a walk, and played with her in the lobby. She was PERFECT! She was so calm, and so well mannered, and when my 1 year old yanked on her cheek, and she didn't even flinch, I KNEW she was the one for us. I felt that sense in my spirit that we had found OUR dog! We filled out the paper work, and 2 days later, we brought Ruthie, now known as NALA, home to live with us. Nala has be a perfect little girl. She is fully housebroken, and has had no accidents in the house, which has been a wonderful surprise, since we had no idea if she had any previous training, or housebreaking. Nala has also been absolutely wonderful with the children. She plays so nicely with them, and has slept with my daughter in her bed every night since we brought her home. Nala has not chewed on any of my brand new furniture (another one of my concerns about getting a dog), and she has not helped herself to anything in the trash, or left on the table by the kids. What more could I possibly want or ask for in a dog. Thank you so much for finding Nala, and helping US to find her as well! We love her, and we KNOW that she was meant to be with US forever!"

GIL - "We adopted our dog Gil in July of 2008. He is the sweetest dog in the world! He is always happy and waiting to play when we get home! He makes us smile and we couldn't picture our lives without him! Thank you for giving him a second chance and for changing our lives!"

MATTIE - "We adopted Mattie in April of 2009. When we came to the Humane Society she was the only dog that was not barking or jumping, pacing, etc. She was sitting at the front just looking at us . We immediately took her out on a walk around the property. There was a little hesitation on my part. She was pulling on the leash as my husband held it and I was so afraid we weren't going to be able to handle her. I interpreted her being scared as being dominant and bossy. Afterall, we had a six year old child at home to think about. She was found as a stray so we had no idea of a background. Was she abused, was she good with kids? We just had no idea. We decided to give her a chance. The first night was rough. She wanted to sleep on the bed in between my husband and I. Then in the middle of the night she must have heard a noise and stood straight up on the bed and growled and barked. I didn't even want to open my eyes because I thought,"Lord, this strange dog is about to eat me." A few days later came a visit from the vet. We were surprised to learn that Mattie was only about 6 months old and in perfect health. She had been well taken care of and had even been spayed. Over the next 6 months Mattie blossomed into an amazing animal. She gained weight (probably too much, but don't tell her that), has bonded with our other dog and is inseperable from me. She loves to play and has an amazing personality. She has really been a blessing. She is the most well behaved dog. There are no remnants of the scared, desperate dog she was when we met her. She loves rides in the car on Saturday mornings to go yard-saling. She is a dream come true. My husband is just as in love with her as I am. I'm very proud that she is our dog. It just goes to show you what taking a chance on a needy animal can bring to your family. It truly does benefit you, not just the animal."

BANJEE - "I had to put my 17 year old cat down in January because of a cancerous tumor in his eye.I was looking on the web site and fell in love with Banjee. I adopted him and 30 minutes after bringing him in the house he was laying on his back for me to rub his belly. He did not get along with my rescued collie Lassie {from Humane Society 12/2002] at first but now that he is "fixed" they are best buds.He is such a sweet fellow and am so grateful that there is a place like the Humane Society and people who volunteer there."

WILLOW - "Here is Willow, one of the sweetest & most gentle dogs ever! In summer of 2009 we had to put our 8 year old collie/shepherd mix, McKenzie,(in which we also got from the humane society) to sleep due to a stroke. McKenzie’s sister, Keyara, our german shepherd was devastated that her sister of 4 years was no longer with her & was not eating so we were sure we were gonna have to get her a new sister to occupy her time. I looked online at the humane society web site & showed my husband a little video of Willow. We went to see her that day & took Keyara with to see what she thought of this new sister. They played in the grass & the society so we filled out all paper work & the next day Willow was ready to come home to a house FULL of sibling! Willow is the sweetest dog, she loves my children and licks the cats and loves to play with her dog sister, Keyara. She has added a nice touch to our family & we are so glad that we found her. She is loved very much by our children, she waits for them to get off of the bus Monday thru Friday so she can nibble on their hair and lick them all over. She walks nicely on a leash & is very obedient and listens better than most children. I can say we are happy to have her & my huaband, Eric, is especially grateful for her. Willow LOVES her daddy & sleeps in bed right in back of him every night. She is the best watch dog & a warm blanket as well. Thank You very much for allowing us to have such a special animal in our lives. We love our 6 cats & 2 dogs just like we love our 4 children and we thank the lord that he gave us all of these specials lives to be happy with. Just for the record we did get 3 of our 6 cats from the humane society as well and couldn’t be happier."

SABRINA - "Last year in September I lost a best buddy Maggie, a German Shepherd that I had the pleasure of adopting from your shelter in 2004. She had passed due to cancer and spine issues. Maggie was a creative friend who always had love for me no matter how ill she was becoming. She kept her unique personality up to the day I had to do the most difficult thing I have ever done in my 51 years. Feeling a bit lost and after much soul searching and thought about having to possibly put another dog to sleep and going through the pain of losing another buddy I started to visit the shelter and seeing many wonderful dogs. My fiancée and I stopped in for the adopt-a-thon in Oct of 09 and came across a little black Pit Lab mix that was given up because the owners had no time for her anymore. After walking about five dogs, we walked this little black dog who really didn't seem to be too excited about anything but being on the leash and out for a walk. So now it is a year that we have had the honor and pleasure of knowing that little black dog. Some folks would say we rescued her but it was Sabrina who rescued us and she is every bit a unique and giving friend as one could want. Attached are some pics of Sabrina. We still stop in from time to time just in case we find a second friend wondering if they will ever have a real lifetime home. Thanks so much for all that everyone at the shelter does and the friends you introduce to all of us that need rescued from time to time."

This is our Gypsy Rose( Vienna) adopted from your shelter about 3 years ago. She has become a very important part of our family. I cannot imagine who would have been able to turn her in, but their loss was our gain. She enjoys running with her 2 fur brothers and of course being a girl, a DAY of Beauty as pictured here. Thanks for being there for the animals!!

This adorable youngster is our new addition to the family. It was hard to decide which cat to take home because so many wonderful cats were available. We chose this wonderful cat and couldn't be happier. He is funny, playful, affectionate and talks up a storm. Even our shy older cat couldn't resist him. Thanks Humane Society for putting us together.

DIEGO - "I've always loved dogs and our black lab Chomper seemed to still be missing his buddy Max who had died a year before. We decided we were ready for another dog. We started going to the humane society to find a new addition to our family. The first visit a half grown puppy caught my eye, The second visit my children came with but the puppy was already spoken for. I decided it would be between one of two older dogs, but my daughter and grandaughter spotted a pitbull they liked. "No way," I said pitbulls have bad reputations and weren't even cute. The next visit my husband came with we walked all the dogs we were thinking about and went home and had a family vote. I couldn't believe it this pitbull had my kids hearts already. We ended up adopting Diego. Eleven months have gone by since then. Needed to say my feelings about pitbulls have changed dramaticly. Diego is one of the best dogs ever. Sweet, loving, always ready to give you a kiss.He gets along well with our 5 cats, doesn't even chase our free range hens any more. I am so glad I was out voted and we ended up with are newest family member Diego."

"Hi, my name is Mandy Wright and I adopted a dog from you at the end of January. I just wanted to write to express my extreme happiness with my new adoptee. Her name is Maggie and I can't believe that anyone would ever have surrendered her. She's the most loving, funny, cute dog I've ever had or met. I've attached some pictures to this e-mail so that you and everyone in the Humane Society can see her doing some of her favorite things. What you do there is great and it has made me and my fiance incredibly happy. Thanks for this wonderful blessing!"

"Hello, I am Michelle; this is Jason and the beautiful dog Xena. We have a story we would like to share with you. In 1997 we went to the Lebanon Humane Society in search of adopting a dog, to be honest a German Shepherd (we love the breed. When we arrived there we saw this dog, which was as a stray, and to our surprise was a pure white German Shepherd. I knew when our eyes met she was meant to be a part of our family. It was as if this was meant to be. When we adopted her our family was complete. She was the best dog anyone could have... loyal, sweet and very loving.
When she died in May of 2008 due to hip issues, our family was devastated and torn apart. There was this sadness in our home... our world changed and our hearts were broken. I thought to myself, what can I do to keep Xena's memory alive... what can I do to give back to the place that gave us Xena, the Lebanon Humane Society? So we made up flyers and went on a mission; what we received was nothing short of amazing. We raised a lot of things to donate to the shelter in memory of Xena. I realized people cared about what I was out to accomplish. I succeeded in my quest and now our hearts will be whole again. Thank goodness for places like the shelter so that abandoned, abused, found or surrendered animals have a safe, loving place to stay.
The staff is great for what they do and the devotion they give to help the animals in need. If not for them I would not be here today, sharing Xena's wonderful story with you. Thank you, Lebanon Humane Society!
In loving memory of Xena!
"We adopted Rocky, the Lab/Husky mix (a Labsky!) on Thursday. I just wanted to let you know what an absolutely wonderful dog he is. He's smart, gentle and goofy. Oh yes, and calm! He's the calmest dog we've owned. Amazing what exercise will do (for him and us!). He's knows basic commands, but he plays dumb with some of the Husky stubbornness at times. We purchased an invisible fence, and he understood what that was all about after the first day of training. We are so happy with him. He's just a really, really great dog!"
"We adopted Gunner on 8/15/07. We visited the Humane Society and he was the only dog not barking. He was a beautiful chocolate lab. He had been brought in as a stray. He looked full grown, but he was still a puppy. The veterinarian estimated his age to be about 1 year old. We made the day of his adoption his new birthday. Gunner (aka Sonny) was not neutered. I was very apprehensive to adopt an unaltered male but my concerns were never a problem. We brought him home and had him neutered and micro chipped the next day. He has been the best dog. He was housebroken before we brought him home. At first, he ran and ran and ran away from home. He just wanted to find other dogs to play. Finally, we invested in an invisible fence and it has been the greatest thing ever. He has at least 1 1/2 acres to run. The rest of our land is off limits to him, but he has plenty. He is such a beautiful dog inside and outside. He looks like a pure bred chocolate lab. His coat almost looks black so we call him our 'special dark chocolate' lab. We have a large family of 5 children from teens to an infant. "
"I cannot stress enough how much we love him and how much he is a part of our family. I will always adopt a shelter dog from now on. In fact, as soon as the new baby is a toddler, we will be looking for another dog. We never had to go through the puppy chewing phase with him. We have a crate for him and he sleeps in there often, the door is always kept open and he makes his way around the house sleeping wherever he wants. We tried moving the crate to a different part of the house and it made him somewhat anxious so we moved it back. We are fortunate to have grandma's come to our house and stay with our little girls while we work, so Gunner is rarely alone and he can go in and out as he pleases. He is such a gentle giant, not even stealing food from our 3 year old. He even follows commands from her. He has his own stuffed animals and he never even tries to take the kids' stuffed animals. The vet comes to our house because we are afraid he will try and escape. He is truly a blessing and has completed our family. I would recommend a shelter dog to anyone who truly wants a dog and understands the responsibility."
"Approximately 2 years ago my family and I adopted a Beagle from your shelter. At the time of the adoption her name was Queenie, today she is our loving dog Lilly. We wanted to let you know that we appreciate the dedication you have for these animals. Lilly is the apple of our eye. She is truly a loving dog. We cannot picture our lives without her. She has truly brought happiness into our lives. She turns a sad, gloomy day into a happy day for all of us. When I come home from work frustrated, all I have to see is her smiling face and he tail wagging as she runs toward me to give me lots of Love. She is truly a blessing and we want to thank you for bringing such an awesome pet into our lives."
Sincerely, the Price Family
"I just wanted to say thanks you soooo very much... Yesterday my son and I came to your shelter to find a new pet kitty and fell in love right away with Sage... She's awesome and a great addition to our family... Your staff was super friendly and helpful; they made the experience for my son all the better... I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for bringing happiness into our lives... "
