Renovation Details
PHASE ONE RENOVATIONS: Addition of all New Dog Kennel Facilities
The new dog kennels will be all new, state-of-the-art facilities, pushing out behind each existing kennel area (see the Kennel Rendering and Floor Plan). Our new dog kennels will be equipped with varying sizes of pens to accommodate dogs of every size, from a Great Dane to a Chihuahua. The small dog area will be more isolated to minimize stress to our smallest residents. Additionally, the dog kennels will be divided into smaller "rooms" to cut down on noise levels and again minimize the stress level of our dog population. State-of-the-art ventilation and waste disposal systems will be included in the new kennels. The predominate heating system will be floor heat with the hope of some day using a solar thermal system to cut down on our use of an oil fired boiler. We will also catch rainwater from the roof for our kennel cleaning needs. These items not only will make the building "Greener" but will minimize our utility bills. Along that same line, the roof slope and direction is perfectly aligned so that when additional funds become available we can install a Photovoltaic System to produce our own electricity and reduce our electric bills. Our new dog kennels will continue to have outside runs, which creates a much healthier environment for our guests that have to live in a pen for a longer period of time. We will also have a separate Quarantine Area to accommodate dogs with any heath issues. All the air within this area will be exhausted outside to minimize the transmission of airborne diseases.
PHASE TWO "A" RENOVATIONS: New Cat Adoption Area/Cattery
Once Phase One has been completed and our dog population has been moved to their new kennels, Phase Two "A" can begin. The highlight of this phase will be our new Cat Adoption Area or Cattery. This new area will be located between the old dog kennels (see Floor Plan). The cat pens will no longer be small metal cages, but comfortable accommodations that include two separate areas, one for the litter box and one for food, water and bedding. Additionally, there will be a Community Cat Room where our more social cats can live within a community environment. As in the dog kennels, the Cattery will include a state-of-the-art ventilation system that will minimize the transmission of airborne diseases that are so prevalent in large cat populations.
PHASE TWO "B" RENOVATIONS: Renovations to our Existing Shelter
As our new Cattery is completed, Phase Two "B" will begin! Part of the old dog kennel spaces will be turned into a Maternity Room for our pregnant cats, along with a secondary Cat Holding Area to allow us to treat new cats that come in with medical conditions, ear mites, fleas, etc. before we move them into the Adoption Area. We will have a Meet and Greet room where you can interact with a dog or cat of interest in a more comfortable, home-like environment. Our Lobby will be split into "incoming" and "outgoing" areas, so that animals of unknown health being dropped off will not intermingle with an animal that is just being adopted. A new Multi-Purpose Room will be added where Volunteer Orientations can be held or school groups can be educated on animal related subjects.
