STRAY CATS
The Humane Society of Lebanon County
at this time does not pick up stray cats from any municipalities
or residents within the county. There are simply just too
many of them. That coupled with a lack of funding, resources
and manpower limits us to the services we can offer for stray cat
problems you may have.
We love the cats as much as we love
the dogs, but the cat overpopulation is much more severe than the
dog overpopulation problem. An although we do not pick up
stray cats, we do still offer as many services as we can in regards
to stray cats.
Some of the services we offer to
you in regards to the stray cats of the county is housing, food,
medical attention and shelter. We will not pick up stray cats
but we will accept stray cats during normal business hours at our
shelter location on 150 N. Ramona Road in Myerstown, Pa 17067.
Stray cats must be brought to us
in Live Humane Traps ONLY! If you do not own one or know someone
who can lend you one we suggest you call your local township or
police dept to see if they have one you can use or if they have
personnel that can trap the cats for you.
Or second suggestion is to RENT A TRAP FROM US!
Using one of these traps you can
quickly and easily begin to take care of the cat overpopulation
problem in your area. Using a trap considerably deters any
ones chance of being bitten or scratched and exposed to zoonotic
diseases and possible requirement of the animals euthanasia.
Which increases our chances of saving the animal and finding it
a good home.
In an attempt to help lessen the
burden of cost for housing, feeding, providing medical attention
and rehabilitation services for the stray cats of the county we
do charge a fee for any cat that is brought to us.
Fortunately certain townships and
boroughs throughout the county have opted to pay this fee for the
residents of their respective townships and boroughs. So that
the overpopulation problem in their area can be dealt with quickly
and seamlessly without the residents having to worry about funding
the costs.
Other townships and boroughs however
have refused to pay this fee for their residents and therefore the
residents are responsible for those fees if they intend to bring
a stray cat into the shelter. To find out whether or not your
township or borough will pay this fee for you please consult the
tables below.
This first table lists all the townships
and boroughs that will not pay the fee for their residents.
Anyone living in any of these townships or boroughs are required
to pay a $10.00 fee for every cat that is brought to the shelter
from these townships and boroughs. The second table is the
municipalities that will pay the fee for its residents. The
third table is the municipalities that will pay the fee, but only
if they are notified prior in order to give authorization.
Please be sure to contact these municipalities before bringing a
dog to us if the dog is found in a township that requires prior
authorization
Each municipality's policy on stray
animal fees is its own and was wrought by its governing council.
The Humane Society of Lebanon County cannot influence this policy
in any way. Only the residents and governing councils of each
municipality can dictate or change this policy during their respective
meetings. To inquire about a change in this policy, or for
information on contacting any municipalities, or their governing
bodies for any reason, please visit our Municipalities page.
