The State of Pennsylvania has passed various laws concerning the cruel treatment of animals.  However, within the grander scheme of things, animal cruelty is not looked upon as a high priority by the police officers and court systems.  They do care.  Do not misconstrue the point.  It is only that they are busy enforcing and processing laws and convictions related to crimes of a more serious nature.

That being as it is, legislation has been passed to allow for the appointment of Humane Society Police Officers.  Individuals who are nominated by a Humane Society, have undergone the required training and have been sworn in and appointed by the courts as a Humane Society Police Officers, have the power to initiate criminal proceedings or prosecute people who violate the animal cruelty laws of the state. 

Humane Society Police Officers of Lebanon County are not employees of any local or federal government.  They are employees of the Humane Society of Lebanon County who have been sworn in and appointed as Humane Society Police Officers by the courts of Lebanon County.

Keep in mind that these laws are laws like any other and can be enforced by the local or state police department if need be.  However it is suggested that you contact the Humane Society first.  If they need assistance from the Police Department they will request it.

Currently the Humane Society of Lebanon County has two Humane Society Police Officers and one full-time Humane Society Investigator.
